Staycation at the Hyatt Tamaya Resort

Updated: Aug 19, 2019

Soulful rescue horses, cultural activities, high desert scenery, and amazing customer service. What more could a gal require for the perfect getaway in New Mexico?

I hadn't yet arrived at the Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort and Spa when I began to feel a sense of peace and calm wash over me. Driving through the most beautiful high desert scenery, I knew I was in for a special experience on this sunny August day. Simply Social Media had done it again with another carefully planned Instameet at this beautiful locale. The schedule promised a day full of fun activities with fellow New Mexico influencers.

The choice of location, at the Hyatt Tamaya Resort, embodied everything that I've come to love about the Southwest. This hotel is operated and owned by the Santa Ana Pueblo on Pueblo lands. It is only fitting then, the respect shown for Native American culture showcased throughout the resort. I was particularly impressed by the kiva style architecture at the entrance, enhanced by an expressive bronze sculpture.

Spread throughout the spacious lobby, my fellow influencers and I were excited to begin our day. The first activity would be a visit to the horse stables at Tamaya. If you are not familiar with the amazing work done by the Tamaya Horse Rehab, I highly suggest that you read about them here. They sum it up best: "We take neglected, abused, unwanted, and abandoned horses throughout New Mexico and rehabilitate them, putting them in the best situation possible and bring them into their own."

Every horse I met that day had a joyful demeanor so obvious with rescued animals, grateful for their second chance at life. I made friends with Sam, Windy, Billy the Kid, and so many more. It was an incredible experience that I feel deserves it's own post. Stayed tuned for that - with plenty of photos featuring these beautiful (horse) models. In the meantime, here are a few of my favorites.

Personally, I could have spent all day in the presence of these gentle giants, but it was time to move onto the Bread Buffet where we sampled fresh baked bread from their on-site horno. Next, we enjoyed a delicious lunch while seated on the restaurant patio. The crowning glory was the Red Chile Chocolate Cheesecake, best enjoyed while gazing at spectacular views of the Sandia mountains.

Following lunch, we were treated to some of the many Srai Wi Cultural Activities offered by the resort. I chose to do "Wine and Watercolor" so I could try to capture the beautiful view of the bosque and mountains in paint.

My second activity was a DIY Scrub Class hosted in their Tamaya Mist Spa. If you're looking for a relaxing atmosphere where you can feel your stresses melt away, this is the place. My tight shoulders relaxed as I measured out luxurious shea butter and essential oils. Spa employees spoke in soothing tones as they offered fruit infused water and lemon bars to the guests. I'm already daydreaming about returning to the spa for a Gemstone Healing Massage.

The last activity on our schedule was my favorite: margaritas and pool time! Even the dark skies and impending thunderstorms couldn't ruin this beautiful day. As soon as we were given the "green light", I ran off to change into my swimsuit and promptly jumped into the aqua blue water. I'm not ashamed to admit that I was the first one in the pool. It was just so beautiful, how could I not?

I truly can not thank Simply Social Media and Hyatt Regency Tamaya enough for this amazing day. I'm so happy to be able to share the details of this beautiful resort so others can experience the grandeur of this place.
